This makes up a kind of hubworld for the game. The camp itself has, iirc, 5 major areas which can be explored non-linearly, along with some smaller side areas. Your character is a 10 year old psychic who runs away from the circus to join a psychic summer camp. The story is linear in its broad structure, but much of the world can be explored as you prefer, and there are lots of secrets and optional story beats. Psychonauts is a 3d platformer and adventure game.A good game controller, large monitor, and plenty of free time can help as well. I recommend going into it without much foreknowledge. It can be difficult, but it's full of secrets and subtle interconnections, and I loved growing to understand the shape and lore of the world. The first two do have violence, and don't have as much puzzle solving as Uru, but they're great fictional worlds to explore. Since you specified exploration as the element you're looking for, I'll make some otherwise odd recommendations.
